Technician – Instrumentation, Dartmouth, NS
Full time- Reports to the manager, R & D. This is a full-time, on-site position located in HRM (Dartmouth)
Greenlight Analytical is a fast-growing start-up company developing solutions for the precision agricultural, vertical farming, can the cannabis industries. It provides tools for growers and producers to consistently grow high quality food and recreational products. The HarvestIQ gives producers the tools they need to accurately measure their crops in real-time without requiring complex analysis or specialized skills. We are seeking a talented Instrumentation Technician with expertise in designing mass spectrometers.
Responsibilities include:
- Designing and testing electronics and Arduino microcontrollers and embedded PCs
- Developing test circuitry using basic discrete electronics
- Creating CAD models and engineered mechanical components, including test fixtures and production ready parts
- Establishing communication interfaces with pumps, sensors, and analytical devices (e.g. UART, USB, SPI, I2C, RS-485, RS-232)
- Integrating and troubleshooting turbomolecular pumps and high -vacuum systems for mass spectrometer/residual gas analyzers
- Assembling vacuum plumbing and performing rigorous leak-testing workflows
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of chemists, software engineers, and university partners to integrate mechanical systems with electronic and software components
- Collaborate with contract engineering firms for designs for manufacturability, assembly, and serviceability of sample introduction and component manufacturing
- Maintain detailed documentation of design concepts, iterations, and final specifications
- Create reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or similar field
- Experience with embedded microcontrollers (Arduino) and basic circuitry
- Knowledge and experience with quadrupole based residual gas analyzers or mass spectrometers
- Ability to develop structural, thermal, and fluid mechanical analyses
- Demonstrated experience with multi-layer PCB design tools (e.g. Autodesk Fusion/Eagle or KiCAD)
- Experience developing real-time or RTOS-based systems
- Familiarity with DSP, data acquisition, and signal analytics
- Chemistry or Chemical Engineering at a minimum 2nd year university level
- Proficiency in Python for statistical analysis, data visualization, and automation
The ideal candidate will be:
- A motivated self-starter who can assume responsibility for tasks with minimal supervision or direction able to handle work under a tight schedule
- Have excellent problem solving, communication, and skills with attention to detail
- Motivated to work as part of a team and collaborate across engineering, chemistry, software, and beyond
Compensation
$38.60 – $45.00 hourly
This is a local, on site role in Dartmouth, NS is not remote-eligible and no relocation support is available
Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. Must be fluid in English
